ShÃ-«saku EndÃ- (1923-1996) a notable Japanese author, who achieved literary accolades such as the Akutagawa Prize and the Order of Culture. For this theological novel, his most successful work, he won the 1966 Tanizaki Prize, one of Japan's most sought-after literary awards. It concerns a Jesuit missionary who is set to Japan in the seventeenth century. Translated into English by William Johnston.This work is uncommon to find in the first English translation. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally smart, except for light damp staining to the the tail of the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
